The Chiang Mai Tourist Police are well equipped to deal with problems involving foreigners. Responsible in crime prevention and suppression, investigating and arresting concerning about the tourist and international crimes in case that may cause impact on tourism industry, help facilitating and providing safety of life and belongings for the tourists and working together with or giving support to other related agencies or those being assigned. These volunteers are here to serve as an intermediary between tourists and the Thai culture and police.

To be able to ask for help from a native speaker is a very valuable thing, so they translate between various languages and Thai in order to help tourists to get rid of stress. Sometimes, they teach Thai tourist police to speak English, they tell tourists where to find certain things, or what to do under various situations. Each volunteer can choose to work as a translator, teacher, sit behind the police desk and offer advice or pound the streets. Some volunteers work one to two hours per week, others spend days in uniform.

Actually, many of Chiang Mai tourist police are missionaries, others retirees, some professionals such as doctors, photographers and writers, with a sprinkling of business owners and entrepreneurs in the ranks. Each has his or her own reason for joining, but they appreciate to help others.

The Chiang Mai Tourist Police are looking for a further 60 volunteers over the coming months. The only requirements are that you have a work permit or residency status and no criminal records. All you need to do is call 1155 or 053 278559 to apply, put aside a few thousand baht for your uniform and accessories and be prepared to volunteer some of your time to help others.

To contact them directly, call 1155

Re: Wish the Police could help, Hello Ronaldo, I thought you misunderstood with the Guitar Man bar. I just visited this place last week and I can say that this is a wonderful and great place for Rock N roll music that you will not find anywhere in Chiangmai. The owners are very nice and I will visit them again. P.S. honestly, i wish we had this place in our hometown.

Wish the Police could help, My wife was ripped off for a few hundred baht at the Guitar Man bar in LohKroi Road by the staff there. When we approached the owner , a farang from Liverpool, we were called liars and assaulted by him and verbally abused by him and his mate. We are nearly 70 years old now and do not look for trouble. But we got it anyway. When there are drugs for sale in places like that .I recommend that older people stay away. How the owner has a visa to stay in Thailand beats me. Please clean up the Guitar Man pub and let us older people enjoy our holiday without being stolen from, abused, and assaulted. Thank you.
